Westbrook, Maine, December 2, 2013 – My Place Teen Center (MPTC) today announced it has received $200,000 in donations: $100,000 each from the Hannaford Charitable Foundation and the Cornelia Warren Community Association. The money will be used to make much needed improvements to the center’s 100-year old building.

“Since 1998, thousands of teens have walked through our red doors to find hope, love, hot meals, outstanding programming and a safe space,” said Donna Dwyer, MPTC’s executive director, “The awards from Hannaford and the Cornelia Warren Community Association will cover critical building renovations to ensure these services are always available.”

Together, the grants will cover more than a third of the overall renovation cost of $563,000, which will include a new roof, insulation, siding, energy-efficient windows, commercial kitchen, etc.

While engineering prep work for the construction on the 10,000-square-foot building will soon begin, a gala to showcase the renovation is planned for fall 2014.

“We are extremely excited to have such amazing partners who believe in MPTC’s role in the community so much so they are underwriting this very important project,” said Dwyer. “Unlike many other non-profits, MPTC does not have an endowment so benefactors like Hannaford and the Cornelia Warren Community Association are critical.”
