GalaMy Place Teen Center’s 2013 Fund-A-Kid Gala will be held on Tuesday, October 8th from 6:30-9:30 pm at the Masonic Temple located at 415 Congress St, Portland. Please join us for an evening of fun and laughter to raise money and help us fund as many kids as we can! Beloved Maine humorist Tim Sample will be on hand to kick off the evening’s festivities and entertain gala guests. There will also be outstanding silent auction items, a delicious array of food, fantastic music from Uke’n’Smile and recognition of MPTC hero’s from the past year. Unum COO Kevin McCarthy will join us to accept MPTC’s Corporate Partner Award. Other surprise recipients will be announced at the gala.

MPTC (formally Mission Possible Teen Center), an after-school, year round, free program for youth ages 10-18, opened its doors in 1998 and has been a vital part of the local community since then. Specializing in youth most at risk including homeless, food insecure, cognitively delayed, low-income, immigrant & refugee teens, MPTC offers academically enriching, life-skills enhancing, hunger relief and youth development programs. Each kid funded receives 1,300 hours of programming and 260 hot meals; last year MPTC served 522 kids!

The average national cost for similar programs to fund one kid is $1,500 – $2,500. Yet, MPTC provides great programming focusing on character development, academic excellence, civic engagement, and life skills PLUS hot meals for only $960 per kid, per year. Although MPTC’s funding has been cut by $70,000, we are determined to ensure these much needed services are continued to be provided at no cost for who enter the safe haven behind our Main Street red doors. Your sponsorship, ticket purchase and/or silent auction donation will help MPTC achieve that goal!
